Description

This is an assignment set by Tanya Raabe (the artist) when she came to my college for the day. She wanted each person in my class to pick two objects; one for cultural identity (with an emphasis on disability culture) and one for personal identity. I chose my zebra print bag, as a zebra is the EDS mascot and a piece of poetry about disability that I wrote myself.

We then had to design a poster portrait for the items, including any imagery we felt necessary.
I first used a close-up photo of my bag and changed the levels to make it appear more flat tone. I then copied my poem onto the black stripes. I printed the image out and drew words onto the white space that I related to my life with disability. Scanning it in to do more digital work, I decided on using my eye as well, to connect the piece more to me.

Well, this is the result. I'm quite happy with it ^_^
